Last night, shortly after my wife and I put our children down for bed, our smart phones started beeping. Another terror attack had just taken place, this time at the Central Bus Station in Beer Sheva. Since the children were fast asleep, we turned on our television to watch the events as they were unfolding. An Arab terrorist somehow managed to get through security at the bus station. This murderer stabbed a soldier, stole his M-16 and started shooting. As of this post, one Israeli has succumbed to his wounds and died late last night. This nineteen year old boy was the latest victim of the “terror wave” that is engulfing Israel. Several more are still being treated at the hospital.
It took several hours before I started to notice some headlines popping up in the mainstream media. As horrible as the terror attack was, I felt even more sorrow after reading the headlines from the BBC, NBC, MSNBC and CNN (to name a few). The opening paragraphs all focused on the terrorist. The headlines almost blaming Israel for being attacked. It took CNN several paragraphs to mention the nineteen year old boy that was stabbed to death.
It’s no wonder the world thinks Israel is evil. The media portrays us as a brutal, occupying people that simply go around caging Arabs in their neighborhoods and shooting Arabs at will, without any cause or justification.
The sad reality is that nothing could be farther from the truth. I have witnessed first hand how Israel takes every precaution (above and beyond any other nation) to avoid having to resort to these drastic measures in order to safeguard her citizens. These Arabs are not robbing people, stealing their wallets, trying to break into their homes. They are trying to maim and kill as many as possible and their leaders are publicly encouraging them to do so. They are targeting our women, our children, our teachers and our doctors. There isn’t any Israeli that is not a target.
Instead of trying to dissuade the terrorists by holding them accountable for their actions, the media encourages them to continue on their current path by giving them a pass while blaming Israel for everything.
Israelis don’t want much from the world. Israelis want acceptance, support and to be able to live in peace. Unfortunately, it seems as if the world (and lead by the mainstream media) doesn’t want the same for Israel.
I can feel your frustration Jon. How horrible to have to live like you don’t have the right to exist.
Your reports are eye opening!! I hope someone is power has the courage to speak about these atrocities.
