This morning, I had some free time (yes, it does exist) so I went down to the shops below my building. There are several bakeries and coffee shops, lottery stands and fruit vendors. Most, including the lottery shops, have tables outside where the customers sit, drink strong Turkish coffees and espressos and talk about world events. Today, most of those tables were empty. I ventured into one of the lotto/espresso shops and the men were inside, gathered around the shop’s flat screen television set. What were they watching? Three simultaneous terror attacks were unfolding, two of them in Jerusalem and one in a city called Rananna. A few Arabs (in Jerusalem) decided to try and hijack a bus and stabbed scores people on board. He was neutralized, but not before causing lots of damage, both physical and emotional.
Going back to the coffee shop guys, they were pissed. As my own blood was boiling, their blood was already molten lava. They were literally shouting at the screen, “where’s Mr. Security”? “Where’s Bibi”? What the f-ck is going on”?
They were right. It’s been a few weeks and there doesn’t seem to be any end in site. The security cabinet meets, almost daily now, and yet, somehow, these attacks are becoming greater in number, more deadly and more ruthless (if you can imagine).
The world remains silent until Israel fires upon a terrorist or takes precautionary measures to prevent further attacks. That’s what’s so frustrating. The world sees a picture of a dead Arab, is told Israel murdered him or her, and they believe it! I would invite CNN or BBC or any other anti-Israel (anti-semitic) news agency to follow me around for a week. Let’s go to the coffee shops together. Let’s go to Jerusalem. See Israel through my eyes.
